Top 10 fights I would like to see in UFC in 2014
Posted  Aug 19, 2013
This list was created in August 2013. Results from upcoming matches might change the selection of the fights in the list.
1.Jon Jones vs Anderson SilvaYou always want to see the best fight for the title and these guys have been on every top 10 list of best ever fighters pound-for-pound. The interest for this fight has diminished since the disaster of Silva vs Weidman part 1, but if Silva can prove he’s still motivated by defeating Weidman in December, this fight might just happen. Our pick: Jones wins by submission. 2. Jones vs Teixeira Jones is set to face Gustafsson in September 2013. If he comes out of it undefeated, his most likely next opponent will be Glover Teixeira. Teixeira is 21-2 with 19 victories in a row. If he defeats Bader this September, he will be the number one contender. Our pick: Jones wins by decision. 3. Roy Nelson vs Antonio Silva The punching power that these guys possess makes this fight a real Clash of the Titans, almost certain to end by a knockout. Unless Nelson gets a shot at the title, it is the right moment for this fight. On the down-side, the match could turn to a very slow and technical fight if both fighters play it safe. Our pick: Nelson wins by KO. 4. Rousey vs Zingano Both undefeated and with perfect record. After destroying Miesha Tate, Cat Zingano was to coach on The Ultimate Fighter 18 opposite Ronda Rousey and fight for the title. However, she had suffered a knee injury which required surgery. If everything goes well, she might face Rousey late in 2014, assuming Rousey beats Miesha Tate. Our pick: Rousey wins by submission. 5.Velasquez vs Cormier The undefeated Cormier hasn’t proved himself yet to the UFC audience with only 12 fights (one in UFC), but he has defeated Frank Mir, Josh Barnett and Antonio Silva, and is scheduled to Roy Nelson in October. If he wins the fight, he will most likely get a shot at the title in 2014 against Velasquez (or Dos Santos depending on the outcome of their third fight). Our pick: Velasquez wins. 6.Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar An Aldo - Edgar rematch has to happen and this doesn’t have to be elaborated any further. Edgar lost the first match by decision and with that the UFC Featherweight Championship. But, this guy proved he can hold his ground against powerful fighters: Henderson, Maynard, BJ Penn. Our pick: Aldo wins by decision. 7. Barao vs Cruz The fight for unification of the titles of UFC Bantamweight is inevitable. However, this match was postponed couple of times after Cruz was injured and sidelined for 2 years. Possibly this year we will finally see this fight. Our pick: Barao wins. 8. Roy Nelson vs Velasquez Big country complained he will never get a shot at the title. First he has to win against a top contender (fight against Cormier is scheduled). Assuming Velasquez will be the champion in 2014, this would make an interesting pairing, since Nelson is able to win a fight with a single punch. However, we have to note that Velasquez has everything else on his side. Our pick: Velasquez wins by decision. 9.Henderson vs TJ Grant This fight was set for August 2013. TJ however suffered an injury, giving place to even more anticipated fight in this category Henderson vs Pettis. If Henderson wins the rematch, there are few guys who can challenge him next year, but probably TJ Grant will get his chance again. Our pick: Henderson by decision. 10.Georges St-Pierre vs Rory MacDonald The fight we’ve been waiting for a while GSP vs Hendrix is scheduled for November. Should GSP win the fight, and most of us think he will, Rory MacDonald will get a chance to fight him. After the second defeat in a row, Condit will have to wait for the opportunity; he is scheduled to fight Kampmann the end of August. MacDonald’s performance against Ellenberger didn’t impress anyone, but he did defeat a direct competitor for the title. Our pick: GSP by decision. Give us your list of fights you would like to see in the comment section bellow.
